Flying with your pet is undoubtedly stressful; each airline has different problems and facilities regarding what kind of pets can travel and how much the fare of a pet ticket is. Southwest Airlines allows pets to fly with customers as long as they follow the laws and regulations of Southwest pet policy. We've given these policies below to make your travel easier and the planning process simpler.

Here's a list of everything you'll need and the rules you must follow if you want to travel with your pet on Southwest Airlines flights.

      Southwest Airlines Pet Policy

      • Pets must always travel in their carrier. During the flight, pets travel from the gate area through.
      • Each ticketed passenger is permitted one pet carrier. Two pets of the same species may travel in the same carrier at a time.
      • Each passenger is limited to six pet carriers. Depending on the actual flight, this number may be greater or lower. Pets are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis until all available seats have been filled.
      • Pets must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably within the carrier.

Restrictions for Pets on Southwest Airlines Flight

      • Southwest Airlines does not allow pets (cats or dogs) to accompany customers on flights.
      • Pets are not authorized to accompany unaccompanied youngsters on flights.
      • Pets are not permitted on international flights or on any that includes an overseas trip.

      • The animals must be safe, non-disturbed, unscented, and require no attention during the flight.

When you’re travelling with a portable oxygen concentrator or trained service animal, the non-refundable ticket has an extra seat if it’s necessary.

      • Southwest Airlines is not flexible if a client misses a flight due to some urgent reason and gets a dog to an outside relieving location. Flights will not be delayed or held to allow connecting customers to transport a pet to an animal with a relief facility.
      • In the case of an emergency, an oxygen mask for the cat or dog may not be provided.
      • Southwest Airlines takes no obligation for the health or well-being of carry-on pets.
